In addition to the historical content normally on display within the Centre, we also host a range of exhibitions throughout the year. This allows visitors to get a broader view of activities in the area both past and current.
The Centre attracts a number of annual exhibitions including the very successful Calne Artists Exhibition which is normally held at the Centre every May.
Calne Heritage Centre 1914-18 memorial Project
The Heritage Centre will run a five year long project dedicated to the lives of the ancestors of Calne residents, past and present, who lived through WWI. To participate we would like you to produce an A4 poster that includes the following details of your ancestor:
1.Name and age at the time.
2.A description of how the war affected their life, a brief story.
3.A photograph of the person.
4.A date within the war period that is special to this person.
You may produce as many posters as you wish, just one poster per ancestor being commemorated, and the posters do not have to be about people in the military or in direct war service. They do not have to be from Calne or even the UK. It could be the story of; a mother, a soldier, a farmer, a conscientious objector whatever your ancestor’s story was this poster should commemorate it.
The poster will be exhibited from the day that is special to each individual story, as indicated by you, and at the end of the exhibition the posters will go into folders that will become part of the Calne Heritage archive which is available to view.
The project will run from 4th August 2014 until 11th November 2018. If your story starts in the war period but concludes shortly after then please make that clear and we will exhibit it after the November deadline.
You may drop your poster in at the heritage centre, post it to us or email it to us. We look forward to seeing your memorial posters.
